TJR on HCBS

KU is all over sports radio with HCBS apparently charged with lack of institutional control which ought to surprise no one at this point. Funny aspect of this very concerning story is that Beatty and football program are going to be charged as well. How incompetent would you need to be to be cheating in order to win two games?

I also heard an interesting theory that NCAA was at least generally aware of what was going on as to Adidas for a few years but the crazy hoodlum sounding off court stuff three years ago w/ Vick, Josh Jackson, and Carlton Bragg may have, in someone's mind, moved KU and Self from the good guys column to that of the not entirely good and in turn, lit the fire on the investigation, or possibly accelerated it. Also recall that Vick's girlfriend was a KU lady Jayhawk and when Josh Jackson kicked her car door in, her father was both angry and in direct contact with the NCAA. He also probably had some insider info on "things." We may never know for sure, but that certainly could have had a bad effect on the whole deal. It sure didn't help!

ESPN radio guys say this could end up similar to Roy and UNC, which resulted in next to nothing. Doug Gottlieb says the same behavior is widely believed to be taking place right now at many top flight programs. Michael Avenatti, formerly of Stormy Daniels fame, implicated Nike plus Duke, Kentucky, and I think Syracuse, in a nearly analogous relationship. I think from what I've read and heard, assistant coach Townsend may very well end up being the sacrificial lamb in all this stuff with Adidas. It will be a miracle if he survives this. If they nip Townsend it will hurt, as he's been a great recruiter for HCBS although we don't know what might have happened without the Adidas money.
